Long since dubbed the serious Sunday afternoon party place for the SoBe fashion crowd, Nikki (the expansive outdoor venue at Penrod's complex, which also includes the more formally elegant indoor resto-lounge Pearl) ascended to destination dining for serious foodies, too, with the advent of chef Jason McClain. While much of the clientele still looks annoyingly better in a bikini than mere mortals should, the weekend brunch temptations presented by McClain (who scored "Best Breakfast" awards from several publications at a former cooking gig in Manhattan), make it unlikely that this disheartening inequality will continue. Who could resist an “Egg Benedict Trio” (one each of traditional Canadian bacon, smoked salmon, and Florentine spinach, smothered in wonderfully rich hollandaise sauce)? Or “Challah French Toast” topped with caramelized banana, macadamia nuts, and rum-spiked crème Chantilly? Still, it's possible to stay skinny sans suffering, with a selection of excellent sushi culled from Nikki's less elaborate weekday lunch menu, including a Maine Lobster Roll with mango and tobiko caviar, or the Pearl Roll (cucumber, tobiko, and crabmeat -- the real thing, not faux "crab sticks" for a change).
