Star Quality

Behold, the wonder that is Jeffree Star!

Published on April 24, 2008

Do you know who Jeffree Star is? Hmm, he's a difficult guy to explain, so let's just say this: Jeffree Star is to MySpace what Paris Hilton is to gossip magazines. Both are famous beyond reason without having actually done anything significant, and yet they’re still oddly compelling. And they both wear lots and lots of makeup. Star truly is famous in his own right — his online profile connects with hundreds of thousands of admirers who idolize his androgynous style and shocking looks. And his looks carry him far; his Wikipedia profile lists one of his talents as “makeup artist,” and that comes before “singer-songwriter” — probably because he's better at applying makeup than he is at crooning. But he has to do something while he's up onstage letting the masses gaze upon him; maybe singing seemed like the easiest choice.

Experience the music for yourself tonight — complete with songs named “Eyelash Curlers, Butcher Knives” and “Cupcakes Taste like Violence” — when he performs at Studio A. It’s part of the Jeffree Star Will Steal Your Man tour. Doors open at 5 p.m. Tickets cost $12 — a bargain, if you enjoy staring at guys dressed up as girls with bright pink hair and perfect makeup. Call 305-358-7625, or visit www.studioamiami.com. Actually, just go ahead and visit www.myspace.com/jeffreestar.
